On the other hand, because it’s so focused on that Halloween thing, the board doesn’t really fit to everything else in the game. They changed things up with the new board, I give Valve that. Nice in late October but not really as a permanent. DU reminds me of a temporally Halloween event. Underlords feels more like a huge mass brawler. TFT feels more like a Moba due to carries and fights are more structured, latter probably because of a better sized board and heroes.

I’ve seen Lord players on Twitch who don’t bother on how to place a lot of the items. Item system in DU feels more lackluster to that. Knowing how to combine them and on which heroes they fit best is important. Items are adding more depth to the game. Anyway, here’s why I prefer TFT right now.
Note: At the moment and I still like Underlords and hope they improve the game. I do think that chat in the game is not needed tho, you already can say standard lines by clicking on your Underlord portrait (not only Yo’s to interact), or add people after a game to talk (like how Hearthstone handles this, which I like). I hope the developers of both games look at their competitors to learn and improve. To me it seems like there are many things to learn about this new genre still, both games are doing stuff good and bad. I think Underlords could use another comeback mechanic now that lose streaking is so weak. TFT’s comeback carrousel is also a smart mechanic, although it’s very noob unfriendly. I heavily prefer the interface and stability of Underlords, but I prefer TFT’s damage calculation at the end of a round, causing the slightly faster pace. I wonder how Underlords would play if you could stack items on a unit (Medusa and Arc Warden would be very busted, probably). I do like the item system in TFT, while it’s quite noob unfriendly, it’s fun (especially the fact that you can add alliances to a unit). I have played some TFT after the Arc Warden meta, and I think both games have stuff that I like more than how the other game handles it. Also, bigger audience doesn’t mean better game, watch out with those statements if you want to keep the discussion neutral and your downvotes low. You have some good points, I’m afraid most people here are quite sensitive about TFT vs Underlords because Underlords seems to be the underdog at the moment. TLDR: Even as a longtime DoTA fan, TFT is more enjoyable for me. I don’t know if this should mean anything but the TFT subreddit has double the subscriber count than Underlord’s subreddit. I mainly play UL on my phone now, but it is really hard to even enjoy this game on mobile, especially when compared to TFT. I hope Valve can somehow make this game more interesting. Powerful items in TFT can make any comp viable, but the items in UL are just too one dimensional and the choice of 3-4 items is too limiting. My guess as to why the meta is stale is because of the itemization. Whereas, in UL it is just 1-3 comps that stand a chance. Alliances- somehow alliances are just more balanced in TFT, I don’t know how they did it, but I managed to place 1st with all sorts of comps during this past month. Sure it can be toxic, but that’s what makes this fun.ģ.
Really ruins the multiplayer engagement for me personally, I would love to write my surprise during a crazy comeback or throw/receive some trash talk. Love the actively seeing each player’s roster and stash, also makes my chessboard feel much more relevant as opponents actually visit your sweet decked out turf and sees your sprite.Īlso, please allow in game chatting in UL, don’t pull a Hearthstone and stay with that yo, ow, etc. Interaction between players- each round a player is teleported to another where one attacks and one defends. Underlords just feels so thumbed down by comparison and the alliance items are so hit or miss.Ģ. This absolutely improved on DAC’s itemization. There is a lot of mix and match, and is much more branched. Itemization- the itemization in TFT gives an element of choice not available in Underlords, with creeps dropping only the basic parts, and needing only two basic parts to combine into the final form. Here are the 3 main reasons I enjoy TFT more: (I reached Big Boss in UL and Gold in TFT)
I saw some twitch streamers play TFT and it looked interesting, especially the board layout and itemization.Īfter a month of playing with TFT and Underlords and going through multiple patches, I find myself enjoying TFT a lot more, period. Having played countless hours on the original autochess and then switching to the underlords the moment the steam version came out, I barely gave TFT an afterthought. I heard of Autochess through a friend, cleaned the cobwebs and finally re-downloaded DoTA again.

I quit Dota a few years back (still keep up with the International and pro scene), and I became a casual dabbling in games like Hearthstone. I also never played League of Legends in my life. First off, I am a longtime DoTA and Valve fan.
